Systems Engineering Master Class

Duration:

48 hours

* Virtual * Live Instructor * Public Class *

What is it?

This intensive 6-day Systems Engineering Master Class is designed to empower professionals with a comprehensive understanding of systems engineering (SE) principles, practices, and processes across the entire system lifecycle. Through a combination of expert-led instruction, hands-on exercises, and real-world case studies, participants will gain the tools and confidence to infuse systems engineering into their programs and projects, drive integration, and improve decision-making across complex systems. Participants will explore the foundational elements of SE, including systems thinking, lifecycle models (including the Vee), requirements engineering, architecture design, risk management, verification and validation, configuration management, and SE planning. The course will emphasize the practical application of SE to current challenges in development, production, and sustainment, as well as communication strategies for engaging stakeholders and establishing traceability. By the end of the course, participants will have a holistic appreciation of the "why" behind systems engineering, and the ability to leverage it for better outcomes across the system lifecycle.

What do you gain?

  • Ability to explain how Systems Engineering solves complex problems and contributes to mission success
  • Skill to identify where and how Systems Engineering practices can be incorporated into existing or future program and project environments
  • Knowledge to describe the Systems Engineering process, including its key inputs, outputs, decision points, and lifecycle stages
  • Mindset to apply systems thinking for managing complexity in system behaviors and interactions
  • Techniques to analyze requirements with rigor through validation, traceability, and engineering practices
  • Tools to deploy Systems Engineering analyses such as risk management, trade studies, and lifecycle assessments
  • Communication skills to clearly convey Systems Engineering concepts to diverse stakeholder groups
  • Expertise to develop and interpret system architectures, including interface definitions, hierarchies, and integration strategies
  • Insight to recognize and implement process improvements by integrating Systems Engineering best practices
  • Approach to establish and maintain traceability across requirements, architectures, and lifecycle elements
  • Methods to implement requirements engineering aligned with mission objectives and stakeholder expectations
  • Strategies to plan and control Systems Engineering projects through assessment, communication, and integration activities
  • Understanding of how Systems Engineering supports all lifecycle stages, from concept development to system retirement

Who should take it?

This course is designed for professionals involved in the design, development, management, or oversight of complex systems. Ideal participants include engineers, project and program managers, acquisition professionals, and technical leads seeking to integrate systems engineering into their work. It’s also well-suited for those transitioning into systems roles or aiming to improve decision-making, communication, and lifecycle integration through a structured SE approach.
